[opensuse] K3b - copying CD to MP3 problem
I recall a while ago, that something had to be done, to get K3b to make MP3 files from a CD. I have installed lame, but when I try to make the MP3s, I get an error about the lame command, but no information as to what the error is, just a list of the command variables. Any ideas tnx -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, I like "grip" better. It calls lame and others to do the job, and does it quite well. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I use K3b for ogg files and I'd like to use it for MP3. It did work in the past, but I've forgotten how. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

grip can do ogg as well. I think you should try it, it is a very good program with lot of options. It's a classic. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I often create ogg files. However, some devices I have won't work with ogg, only MP3. Regardless, the question remains why doesn't K3b work with lame, like it used to? -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No idea. I gave up on it years ago. I prefer the Linux ideal of small apps that do what they do correctly. I like k3b, but it is a "monster" and some times some features fail. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. James, Have you checked 'settings' -> 'plugins' -> 'AudioEncoder' to make sure make sure you have 'K3b Lame Mp3 Endoder' recognized in your setup? From what I recall, I did CD -> mp3 in k3b w/o any problems not to long ago. Once you have put the CD in and chosen to rip the CD, there should be a little listbox in the rip/encode settings that lets you choose to encode to mp3. If not, then just rip the wave files and use lame to encode to mp3 in a for loop or something similar: lame --preset extreme ${WAVFILE} ${MP3FILE} That lets you rip all your music while you are awake, and then just kick-off the encoding while you sleep:-) You are only needed to be the monkey that shuffles cds in and out of the tray. After that, let the box do the rest. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Instead of that, just use grip. It reads the CD using cdparanoia to produce the wavfile, then encodes it using lame (while it rips the next track). Also inquires the cddb? database to get the proper names of the tracks. Very configurable. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
