Stay with it, Ken. It should be all OK by release SuSE 13.9 :-( . 2 nights ago the bloody thing was "at it" for nearly 3 hours and when it got to 3am in the morning I decided enough was enough so "hit the button" and went to bed. Only problem with this was that I couldn't boot into the system the next morning - would get to the initial blue KDE screen, just before the place where you enter your logon name and password, and freeze. Had to re-install the whole sheebang. Cheers. -- Ignorance can be corrected. Yeah, Smart isn't as "smart" as you think it is! Apparnetly it installed something in KDE that the system doesn't like - KDE is "dead," but Gnome lives. Log in with gnome and repeat the update. For some strange reason, sometimes smart deletes kdebase3 after updating it. This is the why you can not login anylonger. After repeating the update process everything will be in order. Francesco Fred A. Miller wrote:

YOU has been working for me all along but I just tried Zen on a fresh install... after: 1) Installing the 'fix' RPM's that were listed about a week ago as 'fixing the problem'... (but only part way) 2) Then using YOU to look at the updates (only the libzypp was available and I installed all of that) 3) Rebooted just to get a really, really fresh start (and bowed down towards Redmond) 4) Zen said there were 54 updates available so I went for it. It died pretty quickly and now it won't even tell me how many updates are out there. YOU works though and I guess that's all that counts at the moment. I prefer Yast and can't see why SUSE should standardize on anything else, IMHO. As I said, the screensaver is "busted," but ONLY for GL screensavers. Pyro, for example comes on when it should and runs with no problems. There AREN'T any real "show stoppers" in 10.1, outside of the update issues, which admitedly did tourqe a number of us off - as it should have. However, that isn't enough for me to want to dump SUSE as my distro. Yast and You are the same on this respect (YOU is the Yat line Update) If it don't work look at "change install sources", you should have at least one YUM repository with the word "update" in it. If you haven't, go to YaST/configure online update and add one (this is what is done at install time if the net works) this is done once for all, but if you enter "download.opensuse.org" as the server name, you will get a random server, which may be a good thing or not (some servers sync later than others) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
Hallo. Since update to 10.1 my HP Scanjet 5300C does not work any more (and it did not very well in 10.0, but a little more than now). During booting I get this messages (from: /var/log/messages). Jun 12 07:45:18 (none) kernel: usb 4-1.1: new device found, idVendor=03f0, idProduct=0701 Jun 12 07:45:18 (none) kernel: usb 4-1.1: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 Jun 12 07:45:18 (none) kernel: usb 4-1.1: Product: Hewlett Packard ScanJet 5300C/5370C Jun 12 07:45:18 (none) kernel: usb 4-1.1: Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard Jun 12 07:45:18 (none) kernel: usb 4-1.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Jun 12 07:45:18 (none) kernel: usb 4-1.1: can't set config #1, error -32 sane-find-scanner says: found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0, product=0x0701) at libusb:004:005 found USB scanner (vendor=0x2040, product=0x2900) at libusb:004:003 (There should be mentioned, that it is a HP-Scanjet 5003c). And scanimage -L: No scanners were identified. The point is: the messages: "configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice" "can't set config #1, error -32". Which documentation should I read to see, what this error-32 means? Thank You in advance. Ok.......use Yast and manually search for libs. hplip-hpijs & hplip. If they aren't installed, install them. Then, install you printer with Yast, AND then install your scanner with Yast. 'SHOULD work fine.
