fdc floppy not working on Suse 10
Since upgrading to Suse 10 from 9.2 on two of my older e-machines the floppy drives no longer work. Oh, I can boot from them... but that's all. The following command appears to work... setfdprm -p /dev/fd0 1440/1440 however, the following format command fails on both machines : fdformat /dev/fd0 /dev/fd0 looks to the system as read-only (write-protected), only its not. Also, dmesg shows many errors for floppy0 even though that device does not exist. Also, this command fails: mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy with a message which says the device is read-only mounting read-only except that it does not mount--- with bad block, super block errors. This only occurs for the two e-machines [via controllers] that have been upgraded to Suse10. The same diskette mounts fine on all of my other machines. I do not understand why I am getting all of the fdc floppy0 errors on bootup for these two machines?? Please help help help... thanks. -- Kind regards, Mark H. Harris <>< harrismh777@earthlink.net
