[opensuse] Need template for touchpad settings on 11.4
I screwed up and lost my touchpad setting for my Dell 1545 Laptop. I have deleted all the files I can find that affects it and reinstalled to no avail. No matter what I do I cant get the tapping back. The file I lost is /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf. The reinstallation of libsynaptics gets me a truncated config but no tapping. I have searched the world, even copied the similar file from Mint12 and Slackopuppy, but still cant get the tapping back. I also get an error when I try to use the touchpad apps. The error says there's no Option SHMConfig = 1 or true. And there is. Another error says it cant find the driver, but that error was there before I lost the file. Can anyone tell me how to get the conf file back? Regards, Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If you are using KDE and have synaptiks installed just open KDE's systemsettings, find the input devices module and enable tapping. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Richard, Here is my 50-synaptics.conf file but since I don't have a touchpad it isn't configured. Might at least be a starting point. Hi, you didn't mention which Desktop environment that you are using, but in the event it is KDE, you may have to re-enable touchpad tapping. I think that it is automatically disabled as installed on 11.4. Go to Kickoff Application Launcher (Green Lizard Icon at Lower left, analogous to Win**** Start Menu)> Favorites tab> Configure Desktop > Hardware > Input Devices > Touchpad > Then select the appropriate checkboxes for the tapping functions that you desire. I hope this helps get it going again. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I hope this helps get it going again. Thanks for your response, Mark, With the help of Sven, Tom, and Joachim I finally got onto the trail of the cause. Regardless of what my 50-synaptics.conf had in it, the tapping would not work. None of the 3 apps for configuring it would help. Finally, I looked at the Live CD which worked and discovered that the app used by default was synaptiKs. In 2 1/2 days of digging I never once found anything referencing that

Anyway, the solution was to remove ANY and ALL synaptic configuration apps along with the libsynaptics file, rebooting to make sure all were gone, then install synaptiks ONLY. Restarting got me back to the beginning and the synaptiks app ran fine and did it's job. Obviously there is some conflict going on between the various synaptics apps.
