[SLE] Bug in SuSE's communicator script
There's a serious bug in the shell script that SuSE 6.4 uses to launch Netscape - tried this both on the stock Netscape from the distribution and the one I downloaded from netscape.com. The problem doesn't occur if I launch the executable directly. 1) Start Netscape 2) Open another window (Alt-N) 3) Try to close the original window through the window manager (aka "click on X") instead of Alt-W 4) Result - both windows get killed. --ET. ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Only 1 user on my system may use netscape. otherwise. bus error. E T wrote:

I had a similar problem with netscape. I tracked my problem down to the "plugger" plugin. It creates a file /tmp/ndegug owned by the the first person to run netscape. Other (non root) users cannot run netscape without getting the bus error. I have not found an elegant solution to this. Options I have considered are to change the permisions of the file created, get rid of pluger, or just manuall delete the file after I am done with netscape. I was wondering if your problem was the same as mine/ On Sat, 15 Apr 2000, Michael H. Collins wrote:

The cause is that SuSE miscompiled plugger. They enabled plugger's debugging, which prevents running multiple netscapes on one host, i.e. renders it unusable in a networked environment. I reported this bug to feedback@suse.de ~2 weeks ago (April 3rd), but nothing has happened since. Try recompiling plugger with the patch below. The package has been fixed a few days ago. The updated package should appear on ftp.suse.com soon... Sorry for the inconvenience. I am running plugger. And I do have one of these files. I would say this is a definite bug in the "ndebug" file David Abraham wrote:

Same here. But playing with the script, enabled me to get rid of the german menues ;-). But I cannot solve the other problem. Currently I am playing with realplayer7, trying to get that working. Found some entries for rp as well, hope I get my problems with that solved by entering the proper path... I don't think its a bug...its a feature of Netscape itself. I've experienced
this feature for as long as I can remember Netscape in SuSE (5.2? 5.3?).
