[S.u.S.E. Linux] setup for dialing into isp
hi! I am a novice in Linux, and am having a problem configuring my ppp connection to my isp. Seems to dialin fine but keeps telling me my pap authentication is failing and disconnects, any advice anyone might give to me would be greatly appreciated. :) thanks geo - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

George, Take a look at the old threads on the archive of this mailing list. I found that the KPPP in the KDE was very easy to configure. I'm not sure what tool you are using. If you have some experience configuring computers I would suggest running minicom and trying to establish a connection manually. This is a good learning experience. I wrote up the basics of how I did this and sent it to this list. You will find this in the archive. I would really have to think about it to remember all I needed to do. There are many ways to skin this cat, I found KPPP the easiest and best. It may be worthwhile to contact your ISP and ask them what protocols they are using. Even if they don't have ready answers to this, they may have a way to talk you through a terminal connection for troubleshooting Windoze systems. Going through that drill may give you some insight as to how their connections are made. Sorry I can't be of more help. Read the PPP-HOWTO, that should point you in the right direction. Dana - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Check that it is really pap identification that your ISP wants - many don't. I don't know how you are setting up ppp (kppp would be the easiest way) but if you have choice of authorisation options like terminal/script, pap, etc. try the terminal/script style one. Hope that helps, Brian. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
