[opensuse] Noob Sound Problems
Hi Guys, Gals and all the others. I am having problems hearing sound. YaST has detected my soundcard and it seems to be working. However I have to turn up the volume to full to barely hear the sound. I mean if there is any noise in the background I cant hear anything. Now when I log in as a 'normal' user I cannot seem to find the KMixer icon in the system tray area. When I log in as root it is there(the little speaker icon). I checked that the device is not muted and turned the volume up to full. I also turned up the volume on the hardware(everything is 100% full blast). Should I run the ALSAConf and see if that sort it out? It is a onboard soundcard and I think it might be detected incorrectly. Any ideas? Try this... open YaST, go to Hardware > Sound card. Select your sound card, and down in the bottom right, there is a button... click it and select Volume. Adjust the volumes and test. Click finish when you're done.

Did you launch KMix as a normal user? If you didn't start it (or you exited it before logging out), it will not be there. It should be in the program menu under Multimedia. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had a low volume issue also when I first installed 10.3 on this box. iirc, it turned out to be the volume on the "front speakers" being turned down to half volume. So on the main volume control, it was showing full volume, but if you click on the mixer sub-control one of the volume sliders was only half way up.
