temporarily suspending screen blanking
When watching web programs on realplayer the screen goes blank after a few minutes. I would like to switch off the screen blanking temporarily until after I've finished watching the program. Does anyone know of a simple way to turn it on and off? Thanks Eddie

So, you need somehow to turn on/off the screen saver. I'm not sure, but maybe some script on one click distance may solve this. And for players, mplayer has this build in. I think kaffeine as well suppresses the screensaver during playback. Sunny -- Get Firefox http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=10745&t=85

Thanks but I'm talking about screen blanking as opposed to the screen saver. I have cancelled the screen saver but screen blanking still occurs. This is okay during normal use but to have to touch the mouse or keyboard every few minutes gets a bit tedious after a while. Eddie

Thanks Malcolm That's what I was looking for. I don't know how I missed it before. Hopefully, it will work. Regards Eddie
You can control most anything (blanking, screen-saver, dpms, etc) with the xset command That way it is temporary, and scriptable. B-) On Saturday 23 April 2005 11:31 am, eddieleprince wrote:
