Dear All, I was wondering if there is a way to upload one's digital camera photos to a webpage forum that one belongs to without having a webpage of your own. Is there a way such as in Konqueror to do this or is there a linux app to do this with? I have Suse 8.2 and a Sony digital camera that works well with Suse 8.2. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marcia

Depends on the nature of the web site. Do they have a mechanism (like Shutterfly does) for uploading from a browser? If you had your own web site you'd probably use FTP so maybe they also want you to use FTP. You'd have to find out more about how they want pictures uploaded. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. It depends entirely on the forum you are talking about. You can certainly do this with linux in general with no problems - the issue is with the specific forum and whether/how they provide access to webspace. I have an HP camera, which appears to my computer as a USB attached drive. This means it's simply a matter of moving the image file to the web site, the same way as you would, if it were on your hard drive. All ;-)

But she doesn't have a web site of her own..... so moving an image to a remote web site is a bit more of a problem.

www.photobucket.com is a site that offers free accounts that allow you to host your photos. Uploading is done via a web page. Unlike most other free photo hosting sites they allow direct linking, so you can use a URL to your photos in forums or other web sites. -- Steve Crane http://craniac.afraid.org

According to Steve, photobucket.com allows you to give out URLs to the
photos. She could post the URL in the forum.
What I do is "send" the photos to myself to get a URL delivered to me by
e-mail. Then I post a message with the same URL (or even forward the
same e-mail) to the forum.
Yahoo! groups allow you to upload photos and/or files -- the moderator

group/forum might be similar.
Just checked out photobucket.com. Looks cool. I'll give it a shot!

All: I had a two-cpu opteron server with 4G memory. However, now I only can see 1.7G on the second CPU (The first is fine.) I am sure I didn't boot it with mem=3.7G. Any other reason I cannot see all the memory? Or any Linux trick can disable part of the memory except that at boot time. Thanks, Qinghuai
My apologies if I'm reading the question wrong, but I'm not sure it's a Linux question as much as a free pic hosting question. Are these sites helpful? http://photos.yahoo.com/ http://picturecenter.kodak.com/ Regards, Jim On Mon, 2004-05-03 at 14:39, Bruce Marshall wrote:

Or perhaps a bit of both. She's asking about using SuSE 8.2 & Konqueror. However, until we know more about the other end, there's not much more we can do. James D. Ivey wrote:

Dear All,
Thank you for your help on this. I decided to go with www.photostep.com. I found them through a yolinux website link, I think. They are simple and work with mozilla and other browers without extra software to download. They may not hold alot of photos for you(unless you pay), but as of now I only needed something small and easy. I will check out your other suggestions if I need to do more. On the other end of it;the website I wished to link my photos in, they had an image button that you only need to push. After which you put the url address of your photo into the box and then your link will be added to the forum email. It is elementary and works well. Thanks for the help. As I think about it I would rather do it from a website like this than from a local file in Konqueror anyway. Again thanks for the suggestions. Marcia

That may well, be, but since she didn't elaborate, we couldn't give her a more definite answer.
