No sound with SAA7134-chip based TV card - 2nd posting
Hello world,
This is my second request for help :
Is there really nobody else using the SAA7134 based TV card,
or having experience with audio via the PCI-bus ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately no, because I am in the same boat. This chip doesn't seem to want to work in SUSE - I have a Medion PC with it, and I have never got sound from SUSE. The strange thing is that it works in SLAX (a Slackware derivative), so there must be something with the configuration in SUSE. I tried various things 18 months ago, but then decided life was too short :-) -- Pob hwyl / Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - KDE yn Gymraeg www.eurfa.org.uk - Geiriadur rhydd i'r Gymraeg www.rhedadur.org.uk - Rhedeg berfau Cymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD

Hi Jan,
What have you done for diagnostics? IOW, how do you know that the "audio signal goes to the PCI-bus?"
Uhhhh, that's what I found in the specs of the SAA7134, and ........ there really is no other way since the card has NO audio output connector ! Therefore, I said that I believe that I just have to set some configuration item correctly. But how and where ? I even found somewhere that - maybe - I have to disable "line-in as surround" to get it working, but I have no clue how and where to do that. I cannot identify such function in kmix or alsamixer. :-( Greetings, -- Jan Elders the Netherlands http://www.xs4all.nl/~jrme/ "Home of the Network Acronyms"

While searching online for a product data sheet or technical specs, I actually found your SLE inquiry on this card from April '05 ;-) Do you have a manufacturer link for me? Preferably one with technical info?

We need to verify the chip used and if an appropriate driver exists. Then we have to determine if the driver finds the chip and loads/initializes correctly.

This is sometimes tricky... finding a mixer that works correctly with the driver. Carl

trying again with a newer Linux version (= 10.0). :-)

Here's a link to a 7134 description in pdf : http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat_download/literature/9397/75010... and here's a description of the 3174hl version (but I believe this is a newer version that I don't have on the TV-card) : http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/pip/saa7134hl

I have read somewhere that the driver is included in the 2.6.x kernels (I assume that's why the video signal gets processed all-right. I have perfect TV-images). Also, I found a driver published at http://dl.bytesex.org/releases/video4linux/
I even found somewhere that - maybe - I have to disable "line-in as surround" to get it working, but I have no clue how and where to do that. I cannot identify such function in kmix or alsamixer. :-(
