Hi, every one! I am running SuSE 5.0 with kernel 2.0.30, now I have troubles to install Oracle 8.05, etc. Could anyone tell me how to upgrade my SuSE? * What packages I need to download (I haven't a CD set of new version SuSE) ? * How to upgrade or install these new(version) packages? * Do I need to build the kernel(new) by myself? * What are the points I will take care, like backup things? Any instruction will be very appreciated. Weiboo - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

First you have to get the 2.0.35 kernel. And you have to compile it yourself. You can get the standard kernel source or the "suse" version , they are pretty much the same. After that, you might want to get the kernel-modules rpm to update your modules to match the new kernel. Then update the packages as you need them by getting the rpms. You will probably need various library packages, but you won't know until you get the error messages. Check if Oracle 8 needs glibc , if so you might have some trouble using it under suse. It's alot of work, but you will learn alot. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
