Hi: I just bought a HP LaserJet 1000 printer. Before buying, I checked the printer database, and I saw that model listed, so I went ahead and bought it. I also bought a HP scanner, ScanJet 2400. None of them work with SuSE 8.2. I have searched hp.sourceforge.net, but so far nothing has turned up that says how to get them to work. Has anybody tried any of these an made them work with SuSE 8.2? Thank you and regards. -- Alfredo J. Cole alfredo@acyc.com alfredo@clshonduras.com

Try the following link... http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_1000 It states that it works "mostly". -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998

I did try that PPD with my printer. No luck. Not even the ASCII test page. Thanks. -- Alfredo J. Cole alfredo@acyc.com alfredo@clshonduras.com

According to the SuSE Linux Component Data Base, the printer is not supported and will not work. see: <http://hardwaredb.suse.de/showProduct.php?LANG=en_UK&searchtype=simple&prod uct_id=21131&arch_id=&dist_id=&PHPSESSID=dd9c73f6b70db665cd5b5ecb5fff41d1> The scanner is not listed in the database, so it may or may not work. I saw this the other day and guessed you probably want to get it to work. I've been using a HP 1100 for a while with CUPS. THis might help if you really plan on using this machine. Features are extremely limited and difficulty and probability of working are limited. IMHO. I set mine up on a RH based distro, but CUPS should work the same under SuSE (any flavor, http://www.cups.org/ ). Used a similar work around on 1100 and it does what I need. I used cups and configured it remotely so to minimize my ability to screw things up. Also limits the ability to trouble shoot. http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_1000 And for other printers: http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi Some of the list guru's might have an easier way to get this working and/or trouble shoot it. This link did the trick: http://home.mn.rr.com/richardsons/foo2zjs/ I used cups configuration web page instead of Yast2. Works fine now. Thank you. -- Alfredo J. Cole http://www.acyc.com http://www.clshonduras.com
