Or something like that. There is an update utility for debian that will check for new versions of installed software. Is there something like that for SuSE? What I am looking for is a daemon that will either download an rpm automigically and notify me or just notify me that there is a new rpm? Is there such a thing? If you want to check and download new package manually: (1) Go online (2) Goto Yast (3) Goto Change or Install Packages (4) Goto Install Packages (5) Press enter on the source field and choose the ftp option (6) Accept the default and press enter, this will take you to the update directory of you SuSE version on the SuSE site (7) How you can go through all the series. It will only show thw packages that you have installed and new packages. Packages that are different are marked with an o. To get further info press F2 (8) Just choose the packages that you want to install and install them. Not that I know off :(
BTW, it's common curtesy here to use real names, at least for signing a
mail.

Go to www.rpmfind.net and download the rpmfind utility. It's not exactly what you are looking for, but what it does is this: let's say you know the name of the package you want. You type in 'rpmfind emacs' for example, and it will search the database and return all the available packages, then it will ask you if you want to download them or not. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I've ranted about this for far too long. The short answer is `no', and the long answer is `not at this time'. I STILL THINK IT'S FOOLISH that YaST does not support an easy FTP upgrade system. Honestly, this is one of the reasons that I've switched to Debian; easier package maintainence. -- -=|JP|=- "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill?"
