How can I install Gramps on my SUSE 9.1, It complains over missing packages no matter what I do. Have any of you out there tried this program http://gramps.sourceforge.net/ Gunnar H

If you check the download page for that program, it says that SUSE has a number of missing libraries that gramps needs, and they recommend using apt to get what's missing. This is annoying but fairly trivial for an advanced user, non-trivial for a newbie. You'll need to get and install apt to start with - they link to it on their download page. I just went thru that with my 64 bit install. I documented all of the packages you need (see the SuSE on 64 bit Architecture section on this page). http://gramps.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/SystemRequirements Scott -- POPFile, the OpenSource EMail Classifier http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Linux 2.6.5-7.104-default x86_64

Not that easy, when I try to ./autogen.sh I get this error: checking Python bindings for GNOME... /usr/local/lib/python2.2/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gnome/__init__.py:14: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module _gnome: This Python has API version 1011, module _gnome has version 1012. from _gnome import * configure: error: **** The python bindings for GNOME 2.0 (gnome-python2) could not be found. ?????? Not that easy, when I try to ./autogen.sh I get this error:
Not sure what the ./autogen.sh is about. As mentioned in the earlier reference, I compiled gramps from source doing ./configure make su checkinstall Then installing the resulting RPM. Nowhere did I use a script called autogen.sh. I did the above *after* installing all of the packages listed in the earlier reference using Yast and letting Yast resolve any dependencies. I just built a i386 rpm using the above instructions. I could get it
to anybody who wants it. Just shoot me an e-mail.
BTW -- checkinstall is awsome. I had never heard of it before!

Yup that little "sucker" (checkinstall) works nicely for "not-so-complicated" "projects" Johan

Yes, tried it and always get this problem every time a new SuSE version comes out. I gave up long ago and now use GenealogyJ. This is a great free java program and never gives me any problems, especially library ones ever! It also maintains a standard gedcom database. http://genj.sourceforge.net/ Geoff
