Need help with unreadable font in 9.1!!!
I just upgraded from 9.0 to 9.1 and now all my fonts are too small to read. They look like this - about 1 pixel high. Example, I open a terminal in KDE and while the terminal text is ok the menu options look like - -- Same with Konq. I can see the folders, but I can't read the text, ditto with yast2 and sax2. I've worked for the past 2 days to fix this and can't figure it out. I think I need to delete something, but I can't remember what it was. All I know is that it if I delete this file, next time I would log in it would fix the problem. Any help would be great as my system is totally unusable. Thanks, Tom

I can't read any thing in order to make the change. All the text in KDE is 1 pixel high. Tom

OK. Run Control Center (fourth entry in main apps section). Then Appearance (top set of options), then Fonts (fourth down in list). Now, the Adjust all fonts button (bottom button on right-hand list). Choose a large size by guessing something larger than what is currently chosen (You'll need to activate the Size section by clicking the tickbox on the top right)! Thanks for the thought, but no go. Everything else changed, like my desktop fonts and menu fonts, but the words in kde are still the same 1 pixel high. Also in Evolution. I remember from some time ago, that I had to delete something, but I can't remember what it was. Tom

more than once? It increments, will get larger each time as long as your monitor supports the display.
Oh ya. I got it to 640x480. On a 19" LCD, I could only fit 4 folders on the screen. Is there a file that has what fonts are used where? Tom

You wanted it <larger>. Move the mouse down and left to get to the

Here's something that just might help (I've tested it on the new KDE-3.2.91 a.k.a. No, I do not think that will be necessary. Rename ~/.kde to ~/.kde.SAVE. You may delete it, if you are *sure* that there are no settings or files that you wish to keep. After logging in to KDE, a new ~/.kde will be created, hopefully with proper fonts. Cheers, Leen

Any chance one of the font packages got corrupted? Might be worth a shot-
run yast from a text console & remove/reinstall the X font packages...

Looks like you did *not* run sax2 as requested. You said that you had a 19" LCD. You need to look at the cd you rec'd with your monitor with the windoz spec's on it. It will be in a file XXXX.inf. I'm just guessing based on mine, but looks like you should have something like: Section "Monitor" DisplaySize 380 300 <----- HorizSync 31-84 <----- Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "1280X1024@75HZ" <----- Option "DPMS" <----- VendorName "--> LCD" VertRefresh 56-75 <----- UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection The indicated entries in my XF86Config are *probably* wrong on your's. You *need* to get the specs for your monitor and run sax2 and put the correct specs in for your monitor. Or edit it by hand and restart X, but you *must* enter the correct specs. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Looks like you did *not* run sax2 as requested. You said that you had a 19" LCD. Uh...ya...I *did*. I have a 19" LCD. what's your point? I ran this exact same resolution with my SuSE 9.0 and everything worked fine.
You need to look at the cd you rec'd with your monitor with the windoz spec's on it. It will be in a file XXXX.inf. First, I don't have it. Second, I don't need it. My monitor is setup fine.
I'm just guessing based on mine, but looks like you should have something like:
Section "Monitor" DisplaySize 380 300 <----- HorizSync 31-84 <----- Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "1280X1024@75HZ" <----- Option "DPMS" <----- VendorName "--> LCD" VertRefresh 56-75 <----- UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection

You *need* to get the specs for your monitor and run sax2 and put the correct specs in for your monitor. Or edit it by hand and restart X, but you *must* enter the correct specs. What "specs" are you looking for? Display size?
Secondly, this has nothing to do with the fact that some of my fonts aren't working. I posted my kdm.log file and clearly XF86Config is looking for fonts that aren't there.
