Would like to capture packets on my in-house LAN, then look at formatted output of what I've captured. What software should I use ? Thanks, mikus
Not to be OT, but... does etherreal have a nice little icon for the system tray showing network activity? It doesn't bother me too much here at work because I am plugged into a router right on top of my monitor so I can watch the little blinkie lights on it. When I'm on my laptop though, I'd like to be able to see when there is traffic. Is there an equivalent icon thingie as M$'s? B-) On Monday 31 January 2005 09:50 am, James Knott wrote:

Ethereal. It's included with SuSE.

No. From your following statements, ethereal is not what you want.

Yes, download KNemo. It is excellent and just what you are looking for. You can find it on packman's site. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

Do any of the repository maintainers regularly update Ethereal? A new version (1.10.9) was released 20-Jan-05, while the version which shipped (and has not been updated) is 0.10.6. The updated WEP features look nice. Compiling from source misses the SSL libraries, even when hard-configured.

You can always download the latest from the ethereal site. I've never had to compile it.

I had to install/start an ldap server. Once that was done it worked. Mike -- Powered by SuSE 9.2 Kernel 2.6.8 KDE 3.3.0 Kmail 1.7.1 For Mondo/Mindi backup support go to http://www.mikenjane.net/~mike 6:59pm up 1:15, 4 users, load average: 2.16, 2.14, 2.15
Hi I tryied that and had no sucess still get "user not ****" I also found this ... 1) Make up a file: /etc/cram-md5.pwd that has in it your userids and pswd's: user1 pswd1 user2 pswd2 (the passwords do not have to match the actual passwords for these users and they are only used by squirrelmail and imap) 2) in the directory: /srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail/ run: ./configure 3) Select option 2, 'Server settings' Select option A, 'update IMAP Settings' 4) Select option 6, 'Authentication type' Say 'no' to Auto-detect Enter: cram-md5 for the type. Save and exit. Also no sucess.. Thanks for feeding back my own instructions... (really) I have not run squirrelmail on 9.2 yet but I just went through the above process and you are right, it doesn't work. But I also had to enable the imap service which was disabled in my xinetd setup. Once that was done I am now getting a message saying that IMAP didn't start. So there is more work to do. Will try it later.
What can I do ...
thanks ..
