Works both ways. You were supposed to notice from the hostname above that the system was running SUSE Factory 11.0.

I wouldn't, but I would expect something as important as you claimed it to be to be located in a default repository. -- ". . . . in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you . . . ." Bob, DrScheme is fabulous, especially if you're new to Scheme or Lisp in general. I found a package for it in the home:mvyskocil/openSUSE_10.3 repository via the build service search page. Thanks Randall, I am indeed new to Scheme, and pretty much a newbie as far as any programmining goes, but I'm prepared to give it a go. Trouble is there's so much to learn - bash scripting, perl, C, HTML, and now scheme - at least I can say "Hello World" in all of them ;) As I've got mzscheme installed now, I'm going to work through 'Teach Yourself Scheme in Fixnum Days' and see how far I get. When I get stuck, I'll follow your link to DrScheme. As I said, the purpose of this is to see if I can write some reports for GnuCash. Then you're getting started in the best possible way: with Lisp and / or Scheme!

That's supposed to be a good source, though technically fixnums can be very large... I didn't try to describe DrScheme, since in all likelihood I don't know enough about it to do it justice, but I do know that it's expressly intended for learning Scheme. One of its very cool features is the ability to dynamically illustrate in the on-screen source display the relationship between definitions of and references to variables, functions and macros. DrScheme is a "facade" / front-end that works with various Scheme interpreters on the back end. I believe MzScheme is one of the Schemes supported by DrScheme, so you should be able to just install DrScheme and configure it for MzScheme. At least I think that would work. I chose PLT for my experiments, 'cause that was one that came along from the home:mvyskocil repository.

Hi Bob, if you will have any problem with these packages, please tell me about that. I've decided to learn Scheme half a year ago, but I've switched back to Python (yes, I'm lazy :-)), so these packages are only one usefull result of my Scheming period :). Feel like your drinking from a fire-hose? Welcome to the club. Rest assured, you are still one step ahead of some.
