[SuSE Linux] @home works this way with their IP assignments.
They do not assign static ip's. The ip's will pretty much remain static, but they want to keep them unassigned just in case they have to administrate the numbers. I've had the same ip for a year... of course... this is Nashville and little changes very fast. But just thought I'd let you all know. The ip's aren't static, but within all estimations, they could be considered that until @home does something major. Later all, Ryan White Ps- Thanks sooo much for all the help. My AWE 64 works now, and tonight I am sure I'll have my internet going. 8' ))))))))))))))))) _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Unfortunately, they cannot be considered static or unchanging, because you can't put them a DNS server and assign a domain name. You can't serve off of these addresses. -- lunaslide * PGP key->pgpkeys.mit.edu port 11371 * * * * * * My advice to you is just be lucky. You can if you use one of the dynamic DNS services, such as dynip.com, and ddns.com. In the case of dynip.com, they have a client that monitors your connection, and keeps the DNS updated with your IP address. If you drop off, the DNS substitutes another IP address that says you are unavailable. The downside to these services is they cost money. dynip.com is US$30 per year, but he gives you 30 day free trial. I use dynip.com (in case you can't tell), and I'm happy with it. The DNS resolves quickly. I've had far more difficulty dealing with the morons^H^H^H^H^H^H poorly trained individuals at my cable company that refuse to believe me when I tell them their Exchange Server died, or the SMS server isn't responding. <disclaimer> I'm not endoesing any particular business mentioned above. </disclaimer> -- George Toft <A HREF="http://gtoft.dynip.com/LinuxAdvocate/"><A HREF="http://gtoft.dynip.com/LinuxAdvocate/</A">http://gtoft.dynip.com/LinuxAdvocate/</A</A>> Consider Linux - Fast, stable, scalable, priced right and available with commercial support. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

I am aware of these workarounds, but they are just that: a workaround. Admittedly, I haven't set up a server like this, but I'm leary. When hitting your security page, I noticed it was dynamic and got tempted, but I'm pretty sure that it's not going to cut it for what I need to do. -- lunaslide * PGP key->pgpkeys.mit.edu port 11371 * * * * * * My advice to you is just be lucky.
