[opensuse] More 10.2 -> 10.3 problems - network this time
Hi People. I have more problems with my upgrade 10.2 to 10.3, this time network cards. The NIC (Netgear FA310TX) worked fine under 10.2 and works fine under 10.2 live DVD & Knoppix "out of the box". Under 10.3 it's not working. Tulip driver in all cases. Under 10.3 clean install from DVD (no updates yet!) I can see that it's transmitting packets to the network - the DHCP server is receiving and responding to them. Wireshark is registering the packets going out but isn't registering anything received, even with the firewall disabled. If I manually enter the details (IP address, subnet, gateway, DNS entries) I get exactly the same result from wireshark. I can't see anywhere which will show me the speed & duplex and can't find anywhere where I can set them - mii-tool is missing & ethtool won't talk to the card. Can anyone tell me what the problem is / what to check next / how to fix this? Ifup or networkmanager should work. Have you checked Yast2 for to edit the settings?
I've changed the network card and am getting the same result. With the new card I can use ethtool to set the speed etc, so I've done that. ethtool reports that the link is up. Still the same result ... no address etc. What am I missing / what has changed from 10.2 to 10.3 so it won't work? Do you use DHCP? Probably not..?
Yes, I have a DHCP server running (and working). It reports that the DHCPDISCOVER packets are received, but the openSuSE box neither receives the DHCPOFFER reply nor receives the ACK for the transmitted packet. DHCP configed network works on this hardware out-of-the-box under 10.2 and isn't working at all under 10.3. Under 10.3 it isn't even working if I manually configure the NIC. It looks like the driver is half working (transmitting but not receiving), which is very odd. Is there an extra security setting or security layer which is stopping the packets being received? Just a thought... Have you rebooted your dhcp server (if it's a gateway router) or otherwise deleted existing dhcp leases from your server? It seems that replies from the dhcp server are being sent eslewhere. -- Jim Barnes -- Certainly the game is rigged. It seems to work fine for the SuSE 10.2 live DVD. I'll try, though. I don't think the replies are getting lost en-route, I think they're getting swallowed by the driver or dropped in one of the interfaces. What is doing SuSE firewall? Try to turn it off. -- Regards, Rajko. See http://en.opensuse.org/Portal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
