Dear all I have several issues with external usb hard drives. 1 is approaching its limit and has less than 9gb out of 1000gb remaining. 11.4 keeps setting it to read only causing ktorrent to sigterm. Right click properties in dolphin reports that the drive is 100% full. How can it be 100% full with more than 8gb free? To be 100% full it would need to be in the region of mb's free surely? Also another drive refuses to be detected by any pc it just keeps intermitant flashing? Is it a usb control failure it has power or could it be disk failure? First hd is a Lacey usb external 1tb formatted to ext3 Second is a Western Digital USB 1tb also formatted to ext3. Suggestions? Kind Regards Stuart Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone

I've seen the same behavior with a firewire drive that was using ReiserFS. As it approached being full, (around 90%) it suddenly becomes read only, the program writing to it aborts. (The external drive was created a few years ago and has worked flawlessly for a long time. I use it for backup). Only solution was to eject the device, and reattach, and re-mount the drive, at which time reiser checked it and found no problems. I then contrived to leave more free space and was able to complete the job. This happened twice in succession. I moved the drive to another linux machine (Ubuntu), and was able to fill the drive within 1% of being full. So there is nothing wrong with the drive, the file system, or the connection, but there is some problem with filling media in 11.4. While partitioning disks for this 1.4 fresh install, I noticed a setting about reserving some percentage for the root user. I wonder if this setting is being arbitrarily applied to all media instead of the partitions being defined. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
