Suse 8.0 I wish to increase the resolution of my screen to 800x600 so that I can sit back further. My XF86Config is working ok at the default resolution but when I try to go to 800x600 I get a huge screen that I need to pan from side to side to see. Can anyone say where I should be looking to correct this Brian Marr

Are you using sax2 to adjust your video settings ?
Yes I use sax2. It sets up the default res ok but I cannot seem to move from this. I wonder if it is something to do with this monitor - LGElectronics Studioworks 910SC. I have been searching the web without much success. Brian Marr On Saturday 13 July 2002 17:16, W. D. McKinney wrote:

Are you talking about starting X in 800x600 or starting it in a higher resolution and then shifting to 800x600 with ctrl-alt-+? If you mean the latter, you can't do that without getting the desktop effect you're seeing. It is a feature currently missing in X. Reading mail on the X developer's mailing lists leads me to understand that they're working on it, but it is as yet unfinished. So if you want 800x600 without the "scrolling desktop" effect, you're going to have to start it in 800x600 and not define higher resolutions in XF86Config regards Anders
Suse 8.0 Thanks Anders. This is in fact what I did after some research on the net. I set 800X600 at the start of my default mode lines. This is working. -- I have set up a PC in the Lounge. I can watch video or TV on kwintv (pixelview card) and surf the net now that I have a resolution I can see. Regards Brian Marr On Saturday 13 July 2002 19:10, Anders Johansson wrote:

I wish to increase the resolution of my screen to 800x600 so that I can sit back further.
Screen resolution can be changed in the "Graphics card and monitor" module of YaST2 or in SaX2. You probably want to decrease the resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600 to enlarge letters on the screen. In this case, I would rather change font sizes (e.g. in the KDE Control Center, ...) than to switch to 800x600. I've heard complaints about applications opening windows which can't fit into the 800x600 resolution. It's annoying to move these windows to access all their buttons. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
I see you're point. I will experiment with this and see how things go. I may have problems viewing some web pages in 800x600. If I can get good control over fonts I can increase the resolution, but some of them refuse to change, even using the Control Centre.
