SuSE 10.0, Kernel 2.6.13 I've found out 'the hard way' that my old Advansys ABP940U PCI SCSI adaptor is not compatible with this installation (but might be under 2.6.17). Can anyone tell me if the Adaptec 2904 adaptor will work with my existing system? (I've looked at the charts on the SuSE web site but they don't seem to be up-to-date) TIA John Alternatively, anyone know when Kernel 2.6.17 will be available on SuSE 10.0?

What existing system? You don't tell us what kind of hardware you are proposing to attach to this card or anything else. If your have the card and you have drivers (aic7xxx) then give it a try, but I don't think anybody else is in a position to make promises..... -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

If top two paragraphs of this email had not been snipped, you'd see that I ask if this Adaptec unit is compatible with SuSE 10.0 on a Linux 2.6.13 Kernal

If you meant Adaptec 2940, then the answer is yes. /Per Jessen, Zürich

No, I did mean the 2904 - it's about 1/6th the price of a 2940 and for one device on the SCSI bus which only has SCSI II, the 2940 would be overkill. J

I've used a lot of 2906 cards which are PCI. What would be different on the 2904? (but it should work)

Thanks, Michel, that's all I wanted to hear at this stage. Re the 2906, my supplier does not list that card; here's their link to the 2904, though http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~60736~WW~/Adaptec%202904%20PCI%20... J

I have an Adaptec 2904 in my PC with Suse 10.0, Kernel 2.6.13-15.12-default and it works. -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Switzerland professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com Madagascar special: http://www.sanic.ch
