[opensuse] NetworkManager-OpenVPN
My question is how to apply NetworkManager as an easier GUI connection for OpenVPN? I already has a working OpenVPN setup to connect from a local openSUSE 10.3 OpenVPN client to an external OpenVPN server. As root in a Gnome terminal the procedure to do this is as follows: # cd /etc/openvpn # openvpn --config myconfigfile.ovpn ...enter the password I have installed the following OpenVPN and NetworkManager packages on my local openSUSE 10.3/Gnome desktop (merged with KDE): openvpn-2.0.9-44 NetworkManager-gnome-0.6.5-37.2 NetworkManager-glib-0.6.5-37.2 NetworkManager-openvpn-kde-0.2r674918-55 NetworkManager-openvpn-gnome-0.3.2cvs20060202-173 NetworkManager-kde-0.2r674918-55 NetworkManager-0.6.5-37.2 NetworkManager-openvpn-0.3.2cvs20060202-173 The only related tools I can see on the Computer>More Applications>System menu are: KNetworkManager VPN Connection Manager (-add, remove and edit VPN connections) Network Manager Editor If I try to start i.e KNetworkManager, the applet added to the gnome panel tells that Network Manager is not running....... Suggestion what and how to setup NetworkManager as a "click and run gui tool" to connect with the OpenVPN client? --Terje J. Hi, There are VPN Connections->Configure VPN... when you click the NetworkManager icon. First you should configure your openvpn by wizard, then you can connect it from the pop menu of NetworkManager directly. On Nov 14, 2007 6:49 AM, Terje J. Hanssen <nteknikk@monet.no> wrote:

On which program menu or in YaST is is the "VPN Connection" found? I think I saw NetworkManager previously (probably on 10.1), but can't found it on 10.2 nor on 10.3 x86 and x86_64. As I mentioned, trying to start KNetworkManager tells that NetworkMangaer isn't running. Where is it possibly started? --terje

On the applet in the sys tray (which only shows up in NetworkManager is running). Turn on NetworkManager in the yast Network Card module. -JP -- JP Rosevear <jpr@novell.com> Novell, Inc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for the tip so far. The NetworkManager is now running. The question is how to fill in the neccessary data in the fields according to this screenshot: http://bildr.no/view/121914 In /etc/openvpn I have the following files located: my.crt my.csr my.key my.ovpn As already mentioned, the OpenVPN connection can manually be enabled as root in a terminal by entering the following commands: # cd /etc/openvpn # openvpn --config my.ovpn ...enter the password --Terje J. I and other have tried to get KNetworkManager to work with OpenVPN, without success. It would appear it's "busted". You'll have better results, if you write scripts to start & stop it. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
