[SuSE Linux] why not wait for 2.2 on SuSE6.0
If out there there's anyone working at SuSE i wish to know why SuSE 6.0 will be .36 based with 2.1.130 as alternative kernel ??? If there're are problems on making it 2.2 based i wish to know which ones (i dont think this is the problem cause they declair 6.0 as 2.2 ready so...), and if the problem is only the time... that's NOT a problem, i prefer waitin and get real new stuff. This is only my idea or is there anybody out there agree with me ?! Because 2.0.36 is the latest stable kernel. And 2.1* series kernel are dev kernels. All dists I know of ship with the latest stable kernel. Developmental kernels though included with S.u.S.E. are not supported, whatsoever. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I've to tell wait for 2.2 to be the *latest* stable kernel (it has a pair number not so odd:) and then release the SuSE 6.0 version, they have been waitin for so long to inclube glibc support and will not wait a couple of week (maybe less) to include 2.2 kernel? I know that you maybe will tell me:"Cause after a new major release of the kernel is released it's still quiet buggy"... well ok fine... then put out new minor release of SuSE to correct or adapt the bug, well anyway we have to upgrade to have 2.2 kernel in the next release so my only wish is let us have 2.2 earlier... wht not ?! I've one more question. How many of you do not fetch the 2.2 kernel and install it when it'll be released !? ---------------------------------- Date: 22-Jan-99 Time: 09:08:48 On-line, adj.: The idea that a human being should always be accessible to a computer. ---------------------------------- - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Actually, yeh, that is exactly what I was going to say. :-) You might get your wish, anyhow, even though, personally, I wish they'd waited a bit to make the release rock solid. I'm thinking it will not be and we're a few patches down the road from stability.
