I have just installed 8.0 and when I try to copy files saved on floppy's and cd- roms to my new SuSE system, I can not read any files on these devices. I know it's a permission problem, I don't know how in YaST to set it up so I can read and save to these devices from the file manager or from StarOffice. I am the only user on my machine and want it to mount these on boot. Thanks Gord Berta gberta@sympatico.ca

Check out te documentation of automount package. It mounts the file system automatically on access and unmounts after a period of idle time. By trying to read, what do you mean. Can you mount the floppys and CD's or not by command line? Which desktop are you using KDE Gnome?
Hi Gord, As I recall, I think SuSE will create entries within /etc/fstab for devices such as floppies and CD readers. However I think it does not configure these devices to be mounted automatically at boot. One reason for this is that there may well be no media within these devices at this time. But if you still want to set them up to be mounted at boot time, add the "auto" option to the appropriate line for the device in /etc/fstab. Checkout "man mount" and "man fstab" for additional information. Incidentally, why do you think this is a permissions problem? Kind regards, Simon gberta@sympatico.ca wrote:
