Yo folks, The wierdest thing happend this morning when changing my shell. When using chsh it asked for my password, i typed in the right one (several times), but it kept refusing it. I telnetted to the machine with the same username and password --> no problem. Even than it didn't work. Is this a known UDF or just a bug? grtz Bouke bouke@pocket:/home/bouke > chsh Password: Incorrect password for bouke. bouke@pocket:/home/bouke > chsh Password: Incorrect password for bouke. bouke@pocket:/home/bouke > telnet danger Trying 194.109.14.28... I reported the same problem a couple of months ago (with SuSE 5.1) and did not get any enlightening response, except for another user reporting a similar experience. Similar to your Telnet experience - go to another VT and type the correct user/password combo and you get logged in!! I have not been able to figure the reason for this behaviour. -- Arun Khan - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Check if the suid bit is set on chsh otherwise it can't read /etc/shadow. Ciao, Stefan - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
