I had this problem and it turned out to be a poorly terminated scsi chain. I bought a $30 active terminator, plugged it into the end of the chain, and now everything is fine. -----Original Message----- From: bob gordon <bob100@ibm.net> To: Hubert Mantel <mantel@suse.de> Cc: suse-linux-e@suse.com <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Date: Monday, November 09, 1998 2:57 PM Subject: RE: [SuSE Linux] Re: 2940U2W

thing to work? I can't even get started installing 5.3.
So far I've tried the scsi01 and scsi30 boot disks from the 5.3 installation CDs. Have also tried (besides the supplied boot disk, of course) the aic7890 boot disk from the suse FTP site at suse_update/S.u.S.E.-5.3/disks. All I've succeeded in doing is getting a bunch of hangs.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them very much to say the least.
The newest bootdisk from ftp.suse.com:/pub/suse_update/suse53/disks/aic7890 should work fine. Anyway, I just updated the disk to the newest driver version 5.1.4
-bob- -o) Hubert Mantel Goodbye, dots... /\\ _\_v Hubert,
Thanks very much for telling me about this. But the same thing happened with the suggested aic7890 as with every other boot disk I've tried. (By now have probably tried a dozen of them.) Anyway, the last two lines read:
SCSI host 0 reset (pid 1) timed out again - probably an unrecoverable SCSI bus or device hang
What could be going wrong?
