[opensuse] I am going to reinstall, lvm is only problems.
Hi all that have put in their time to help me, You have helped me gather a lot of very useful information in a very short time, and i am very grateful for that. But the only real solution is to re partition my drive. So that is what i am going to do now. 'I'll be back'. -- Have a nice day, Oddball. All went well and i am up to date now. Nasty problem, reason to need to be root on gui for is now formatted of the drive, with anything else. Normal partitions now, an ext2 /boot, and an extended drive right behind it. This time i succeeded to switch kdm theme to openSuSE-Elegant login screen, and SUSE-Elegant bootsplash. Was able to change the plymouth green background to a black one, looks much more in line with Elegant. Only the bootloader screen i can not change anymore.. changed all images and # mkinitrd, but it does not apply.... (maybe because /boot is outside of the extended partition, i have no idea...) It has upstream branding, it is acceptable for now. (i have no choice atm anyhow...) Again thanks for all the support. -- Have a nice day, Oddball. I forgot grub legacy has gfxboot.... When i looked in bootloader configuration in Yast, grubs image dir was /boot/message. So now i fiddled around with it (even installed qemu after i was done, works fine with it) and now bootloader is also openSuSE-Elegant. Iirc the theme was developed by Cristian Rodriguez back in 2009. Maybe it interests nobody, but with 2 different sequences booting, it is not all consequent. So, switching from gfx, to plymouth, to kdm is... not at all smooth. Just after the bootloader screen, large fonts are badly arranged over the screen before plymouth falls in. Is there a way to smoothen everything by fi, removing plymouth? So that the same theme, in this case openSuSE-Elegant, which is the most beautifull theme for 'real' openSUSE lovers, can be the same, continous image, all along to the fading into the desktop? I have now: Grub gfxboot: openSuSE-Elegant > few secs black screen with too large fonts from preboot, than plymouth, with the large chameleon icon, but with black background this time. > kdm with openSuSE-Elegant, which looks sophisticated with the keys, the welcome text and clock, and the choices for wm's and close-restart options, and: Asterisks instead of bullets. > and than the openSuSE-Elegant splash fading into the desktop: very nicely done. The only thing i want to achieve is this same screen consequently during the whole bootsequence. Is this possible? Kind regards, -- Have a nice day, Oddball.
