[opensuse] old kernel lib directories
Is there *any* reason to maintain directories, most are empty and some still contain nvidia drivers and vbox***.ko files, from removed kernels, ie: /lib/modules/2.6.37-rc6-default /lib/modules/2.6.36-rc4-18-default and quite a few others. I discovered these directories while searching for something else :^). If there is no reason to maintain these directories, why aren't they removed by zypper. I try the newer kernels and when I don't find a problem, remove the previous, maintaining only the stock updated kernel and one other well performing kernel. Presently on my x86_64 11.2 system I have: kernel-default-2.6.31.14-2.1.x86_64 kernel-default-2.6.36-94.1.x86_64 kernel-default-2.6.37-35.1.x86_64 plus the matching base, source and devel packages for building nvidia drivers. jfyi, I keep a text file containing the kernel names w/o version numbers and: export K=2.6.3x-xx.1.x86_64 zypper -v rm `for i in `\cat kernel.txt\`;do echo $i$K;done` when I notice a new kernel, I reverse zypper, zypper -v in ..... -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The ones containing kernel modules like nvidia and vbox are still in use, as the KMP magic symlinks the modules from the old directory to the new one. So keep those. If the directories are completely empty, you can remove them. Ciao, MArcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
