What does the X log say?
even sax2 takes me to a black screen.
it uses X itself, so, no wonder...

How did you do this? -hwh

sax log shows sh-3.00$ grep -i error SaX.log (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown but nothing that jumps out as strange

from that I'd say that an $ grep "(EE)" SaX.log or $ grep "(WW)" SaX.log would be _much_ more informative... BTW, when this black screen is there, are you able to quit X by hitting CTRL-ALT-Backspace (i.e., is X actually working or freezed)? Do you have a TV plugged in your graphic adapter? -hwh

after rebooting a second time after fixing the fs the issue solved by itself. but i will keep my eye open b/c i see lots of activity in google concerning suse/black screen... i am still concern but i will wait and see if it occurs again
How can usb be started and stopped in 9.3 or 10.0? I always thought that this can be accomplished through the rmmod command, given as su or root. I need to stop at least usblp, ehci_hcd , ohci_hcd and usbcore, in order to allow a vmware virtual machine to take over a port to install a printer driver. It seems that everything except usbcore can be removed, but not usbcore. thanks in advance, d
