Hello Using SUSE 7.2 Are xscanimage and xsane the same software regarding which scanner, is been used. Which is the best? I cannot get xsane to work but have got xscanimage working but am worried I may be taking 2nd best regarding the software for scanners. I am using Scanner dev/sg1....model Canon, Canoscan 300 Is they better scanning software than this? I also have Gimp installed but I cant get it working with the xscanimage, something is quite not correct. in the gimp plug in folder I have xscanimage but no reference to the scanner in gimp tool bar etc... Ideas & views relating to what my problems are and how to solve them? Regards -- Stephen J Brook

They look different to me but both use sane.

What happens when you run XSane?

If you get XSane working you can use File->Aquire->XSane image.

Please post messages that XSane displays when you try and run it. Type xsane in a xterm. Also type the following: ln -s /dev/sg0 /dev/scanner chmod 777 /dev/sg0 M

You are lucky getting the Canon to work. They don't seem to have any interest ing supporting Linux.

My Gimp setup uses File -> acquire -> xsane

Gimp documentation has info on linking to the Xsane. With Xscanimage allready going it must only be a short step to getting Xsane working. gringo:/home/gringo # locate gimp | grep xsane /usr/lib/gimp/1.2/plug-ins/xsane /usr/X11R6/lib/sane/sane-xsane-gimp-doc.html /usr/X11R6/lib/sane/sane-xsane-gimp.jpg gringo:/home/gringo # good luck Brian Marr
