[opensuse] openSUSE, X86_64, Python and FusionIcon
Guys, This is the second e-mail about this issue. I would have wrote off as something I did. But I have now install 11.1 on three systems. All diffirent hardware. All give me the same error when I launch fusion-icon. * Error: the "FusionIcon" module is missing. If you did not install fusion-icon to /usr, you may need to add the appropriate site-packages directory to your PYTHONPATH I have done a TON of searching on the net and don't see where I can fix this. I have try to export a path, but I still export PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/:/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/:/usr/lib64/python/site-packages/:/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/:/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/:$PYTHONPATH But I am still getting that error. What do I need to do to fix this? Payne -- ---------------------------------------- When a place gets crowded enough to require ID's, social collapse is not far away. It is time to go elsewhere. Which you launch how?
* Error: the "FusionIcon" module is missing. If you did not install fusion-icon to /usr, you may need to add the appropriate site-packages directory to your PYTHONPATH
I'd try launching fusion-icon from the command line under strace contol like so: strace -o fusion-icon.trace -f -e trace=file fusion-icon fusion-icon.trace should show you what file is tried to open and on which path. Maybe that gives you a clue what is going wrong.
export PYTHONPATH=....
Where do you do the export? Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Is fusion-icon.trace you have to install? I get command not found when I try to run it and and locate, which, and whatis doesn't find anything. I was exporting the path to the /us/lib dir for PYTHON are. I was reading that other distro were having the same issue. By the way, I tried the 1-Click on the Community Page but it keeps saying that I need to have python 2.6 greater and I have 2.6.0.2 so that was a wash as well. -- ---------------------------------------- When a place gets crowded enough to require ID's, social collapse is not far away. Chuck, I can't answer all your questions, but I can give you my brute-force approach to getting compiz to work (I use this for kde35, somebody else will have to comment if it differs for kde4): First, make sure you graphics driver is installed and working properly, see the Pre-installation notes at: http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion Then confirm you have everything setup by reading http://en.opensuse.org/ATI # for ATI http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA # for Nvidia Second remove compiz completely: sudo rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) $(rpm -qa | grep ccsm) fusion-icon xwinwrap intltool xgl Third -- my approach (I've had mixed resultes with 1-click so I just do a semi-manual package selection): Make sure you have the X11:/XGL repository added to your system and *disable* the X11:/Compiz repository if you have that installed (I've had nothing but trouble there). Example, for 11.0 you would add: zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_11.0/ xgl Then in Yast -> Software Management choose "Filter", "Repositories", "xgl" and select the following packages: compiz-0.7.8-9.1 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.8-2.4 compiz-emerald-0.7.8-2.4 **compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-16.1 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.7.8-4.2 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.8-3.3 compiz-kde-0.7.8-9.1 fusion-icon-0.0.1_080201-3.1 intltool-0.40.3-7.1 libcompizconfig-0.7.8-3.4 python-compizconfig-0.7.8-2.4 xgl-git_071026-79.3 **Note, for some reason compiz-emerald-themes is *not* included in the repository. If you want emerald themes, then you need to install it from the install DVD or the suse-oss repository. Log out and log back in and try starting compiz with Fusion-icon (Usually in the menu under System -> More. If compiz starts fine, your done. If not, then right-click the fusion-icon in the tray and make sure compiz is selected as the window manager, if not, then select it and see if it works. It if still won't work, then select kwin as your window manager and then go wipe out the old compiz configuration files. Just delete ~/.config/compiz and log out and log back in and try starting compiz again. If your still stuck, go back to step 2 above and wipe out your compiz install completely and try the 1-click at: http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion Then rework the troubleshooting steps above. Chuck,
I can't answer all your questions, but I can give you my brute-force approach to getting compiz to work (I use this for kde35, somebody else will have to comment if it differs for kde4):
First, make sure you graphics driver is installed and working properly, see the Pre-installation notes at:
http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion
Then confirm you have everything setup by reading
http://en.opensuse.org/ATI # for ATI http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA # for Nvidia
Second remove compiz completely:
sudo rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) $(rpm -qa | grep ccsm) fusion-icon xwinwrap intltool xgl
Third -- my approach (I've had mixed resultes with 1-click so I just do a semi-manual package selection):
Make sure you have the X11:/XGL repository added to your system and *disable* the X11:/Compiz repository if you have that installed (I've had nothing but trouble there). Example, for 11.0 you would add:
zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_11.0/ xgl
