Please inform me as to where to get the proprietary driver and how to install it into the system. You all know a lot more than I do and I need you help.

To get the proprietary driver you have to join the url (the address of the repo) in zypper or yast to the list of repos You can do this in tty1. How: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Add_package_repositories explains it. Where to find the repo of proprietary driver: https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories in your case 1.4 For the most you can search online and you have very good guides in opensuse support database SDB. With the two links you should be done.
