As I recall from the last time I installed my NVidia driver, it compiles itself into a kernel module. As such you'd want to make dependencies for the kernel modules... As for the make cloneconfig, it duplicates the configuration of your running kernel.
nvidia-installer --uninstall cd /usr/src/linux make cloneconfig && make dep cd /your download directory containing the driver sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run
If you didn't, please retry one more time. I agree that that you shouldn't go back to older versions. Cheers, It works! I just ignored the error reported and the driver works just fine. One final question: Is there any reason to do the make cloneconfig and make dep everytime I want to install a new driver?
