Re: [SLE] Kernel installs in 7.1 - HELP
You need to go and get the latest alsa.org and then compile it, this will create the right kernel mods ( i think ) dids On Monday 19 March 2001 22:47, Cleary_Mike@emc.com wrote:
In my case, sound works just fine when I use any of the "stock" kernels. It seems that when I build my own, things go haywire. If I had never done it before, it might not bother me as much. But I don't understand where I am going wrong now.......
Any suggestions SuSE? It would be greatly appreciated!!

I had to go to alsa.org and download the new alsa packages and then the soundblaster live modules were created properly and appeared fine on the bootup
ive had similar problems. im a bit confused as to what i have been doing wrong. I have another scsi module advansys which fails on bootup but will insmod fine.

So I went back to /usr/src/linux-2.4.0_suse and ran bzlilo. Then I added a new entry in lilo.conf using yast1. BTW - I got rid of my bogus initrd.24s too. I can boot this kernel, BUT I run into modprobe errors concerning my soundcard (Soundblaster Live!), and I get the usbmgr failure during boot-up (see recent posts to the list by myself & Jerry Kreps). X will not start either after I have logged in.
WTF is going on here??? I have made countless kernels before for every version since 6.0 & have never had these kinds of problems before. What am I missing here? Has something changed?
All I want is a 2.4 kernel optimized for AMD K6-2 w/ my joystick modules............:-(
