Hello, Does anyone have a recommendation for a light weight laptop/notebook (aprox' 5 lbs or less) that also has a decent screen resolution, including all the wireless features, usb, etc. I've searched TigerDirect, Insight, etc, but nothing has caught my eye. Many thanks in advance. James

James, check out www.linuxcertified.com I have the LC2210 laptop. Very happy with it. Linux pre-loaded. No dual boot. Works great wirelessly or connected by CAT5 cable. Gil

I think you already got one answer which has sage advice. I can only add that I would recommend you choose one which has a standard Intel WiFi chipset and NVidia graphics (though I've had no issues with ATI on any of my systems). Other than that you should be pretty good to go. FWIW, IBM (a.k.a. Levono) has decent *nix support as does Dell. I am not sure how easy it is to port to Linux, but other models seem to work. Try the Averatec 4100 series. It has 512Mbytes, 80 Gbyte hard drive, Turion MT-30, Wirel b & G, DVD burner, 1280x800 (I think), and 4.7 lb. It is selling at Costco for $800. You can look at the specs at www.averatec.com -- Joseph Loo jloo@acm.org
