Hi,
we where happily using Samba 2.0.7.13 on a 6.4 box with Win98, Win95 and NT clients. Now we hat to integrate a WinME box. And suddenly Samba is a bit erratic in accepting the passwords. Sometimes browsing works, sometime not, sometimes printing works and sometime not.
When it doesn't work, I see the following in log.smb:
[2000/12/14 14:04:24, 1] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(933) Rejecting user 'franzi': bad password
Any ideas? I am a bit stumped at the inconsistency of the failures.
thx afx

You may have to check whether your clients expect encrypted passwords or not, maybe the various Winsh*t clients have the option set differently ?
We did the registry patch for plain passwords. It is onle the one ME host that has the problem erraticaly, so unless the registry patch only works according to the phase of the moon this shouldn't be the problem. cheers afx -- atsec information security GmbH Phone: +49-89-44249830 Steinstrasse 68 Fax: +49-89-44249831 D-81667 Muenchen, Germany WWW: www.atsec.com May the Source be with you!
