[opensuse] Mandatory updates in 11.1
Hello, Today I started my 10.3 openSuse system and was greeted with the orange triangle telling me that there are 5 updates. On my openSuse 11.1 system the triangle never shows up. I cannot believe that there are no updates for that system so I assume something is lacking. I asked before and so this is probably too stupid to ask but please will some kind soul steer me in the right direction? thank you, Klaas Punt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Become superuser. Run yast. You will see options for online update and online update configuration. Select those options and set appropriate flags. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Dave, I did that a long time ago when I set up the 11.1 system. Automatic update - once a day. There may be an issue with the repositories in the Update configuration, which ones do I need for the Mandatory Updates to show up? greetings, Klaas. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just: openSUSE-11.1-Update Server: download.opensuse.org Directory:/update/11.1/ I think. I happen to have just done a fresh install. Only 8 security patches available via you. Other recommended ones, but only 8 mandatory. There are currently 34 security updates for 11.1, but not all of them are applicable to a default install. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you are running automatic updates once a day, you will never see updates in the panel applet, because they are already applied.

The update repo. Plus oss and non-oss. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Huh. Automatic update? Do you mean you set it up to automatically update every day or just to check for updates every day (which is the default configuration anyway)? If it's automatically installing updates everyday, then you're not being notified because it's not needing to... it's already installing! If you would like to make sure the updates are coming through, open the Software Updater. In GNOME, it's Computer menu > More Applications... > Update Software. I'm not sure about KDE, but look for something in the menu regarding Software Updater, PackageKit, etc. It should automatically refresh. Unlike 10.3, the update repositories are set up by default in 11.1. So you shouldn't have to worry about setting that up. -- Kevin "Yeaux" Dupuy - openSUSE Member Public Mail: <kevin.dupuy@opensuse.org> Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from the Yeaux! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Unlike 10.3, the update repositories are set up by default in 11.1. So you shouldn't have to worry about setting that up.
Also, I don't know what update did it, but on 11.0 the openSUSE Updater icon was removed from the start menu. So for kde, you need to launch: /usr/bin/opensuseupdater-kde -- David C.
