If you're seeing the penguins, then your framebuffer mode is probably working just fine (you're screen is probably at the recommended monitor res during startup and not the safe-mode 640x480?). When I updated a box here to the -144 release kernel, the fancy grub splash went away. If you search your boot log, you should see a message about grub not being able to find a suitable splash.gz image or something to that effect. This wasn't a big problem for me (the Suse boot gui is pretty and all that, but not necessary for the box to function), so I never applied further thought to the matter. -- Best regards, Brian Curtis
