FWIW: I believe that ipchains and iptables cannot coexist within the kernel. If you currently have the iptables modules loaded, then attempting to load ipchains will fail and vice versa. You will probably find that your stock kernel has ipchains and iptables modules compiled. So to use ipchains first check that non if it's modules are loaded using lsmod. If they are, remove them with rmmod. You should then be able to use ipchains fine. This is another reason why I found it hard to believe you got axed at SuSE, being most helpful like this. -----Original Message----- From: Ben Rosenberg [mailto:ben@whack.org] Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2001 10:14 AM To: SLE Subject: Re: [SLE] 7.3 Install. All you have to do is load the module for ipchains. It's most likely not loading by default but it does exist in the kernel since I'm using 2.4.13 out of Huberts directory and it works fine :) * W.D.McKinney (deem@wdm.com) [011031 10:26]: ->Please tell me it isn't so :-( I was just about to head to CompUSA and pick ->up a copy. ->This would be bad as my firewall is combo of ipchains/snort/etc. -> ->/Dee - -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq and the archives at http://lists.suse.com -- The content of this e-mail is confidential, may contain privileged material and is intended solely for the recipient(s) named above.
