Re: [SLE] Downloaded 9.0 install from harddrive problem
My apologies. I assumed the reply-to address was for this list and not for the original sender.... Regards, Jim -----Forwarded Message----- From: James D. I downloaded the entire directory tree below ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/suse/suse/i386/9.0 -- about 3GB of data. Here's what I get from ls -l: total 13868 -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 9427870 Nov 18 11:24 ARCHIVES.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 36 Oct 3 00:20 autorun.inf drwxr-x--- 3 jim iveylaw 4096 Nov 25 15:23 boot/ -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 4369361 Nov 18 11:20 ChangeLog -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 592 Nov 18 10:50 content -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 17992 Oct 3 00:20 COPYING -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 21452 Oct 3 00:20 COPYING.tex -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 1265 Oct 3 00:20 COPYRIGHT -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 27849 Oct 3 00:20 COPYRIGHT.yast -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 260 Nov 18 11:21 directory.yast drwxr-x--- 3 jim iveylaw 4096 Nov 25 15:33 docu/ drwxr-x--- 20 jim iveylaw 4096 Nov 25 15:36 dosutils/ -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 1694 Oct 3 00:20 gpg-pubkey-3d25d3d9-36e12d04.asc -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 2401 Oct 3 00:20 gpg-pubkey-9c800aca-39eef481.asc -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 57215 Nov 18 11:31 INDEX.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 363 Oct 3 00:20 LIESMICH -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 377 Oct 3 00:20 LIESMICH.DOS -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 103223 Nov 18 11:24 ls-lR.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 44490 Nov 21 11:31 MD5SUMS -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 189 Nov 21 11:31 MD5SUMS.asc drwxr-x--- 2 jim iveylaw 4096 Nov 25 15:42 media.1/ -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 2817 Oct 3 00:20 pubring.gpg -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 334 Oct 3 00:20 README -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 348 Oct 3 00:20 README.DOS -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 2006 Nov 18 11:49 README.FTP drwxr-x--- 8 jim iveylaw 4096 Nov 25 15:42 suse/ -rw-r--r-- 1 jim iveylaw 2238 Oct 3 00:20 SuSEgo.ico drwxr-x--- 3 jim iveylaw 4096 Nov 26 08:50 unsorted/ Here's what I get from du -h --max-depth=1: 99M ./boot 4.1M ./docu 8.3M ./dosutils 12K ./media.1 3.0G ./suse 94M ./unsorted 3.3G . Like I said, it looks like everything is there. What you don't see here is that I did successfully download a suse/setup directory. I imagine there's a straight-forward way to verify the integrity of the downloaded data. I see the keys there. I didn't see anything about that in any of the readme files, the archives, or the faqs. Any help in that regard or getting the install going is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim On Sun, 2003-11-30 at 03:21, Henne Vogelsang wrote:

I've downloaded Suse 9.0 and saved it to a second harddrive
I've burned the CD and I boot from it. I choose "Manual Install" at the appropriate menu, specify "From Harddrive", identify the partition and specify the path ("Suse9.0/9.0").
Everything seems to go relatively smoothly except that no software packages are found. At the installation summary, I get the following error message:
Cannot read package data from installation media. Media error? * ERROR: No proposal
I do the Ctrl-Alt-F5 (or similar) and poke around. I find the directory tree under /mounts/extra/Suse9.0/9.0. Everything seems to be there.
What did you download and how does the directory tree below Suse9.0/9.0/ look? Sounds like you do not have the instalation source files. Like
content directory.yast suse/setup media.*
