I am trying to install the newest version of GAIM (.61) and it is complaining that I don't have "libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3)" I have GLIBC_2.2.5, I am up to date on auto updates, so i was wandering: 1) Can i safely upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.3 2) has anyone else done this sucussfully 3) can i find a SuSE package to install is there anything else i should know before upgrading. thanks in advance -- Jesse Shaver

1) Can i safely upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.3
No. There are certain things like statically linked binaries that'll break. Upgrading glibc is by far more risky then updating the kernel.
3) can i find a SuSE package to install
Nope.
is there anything else i should know before upgrading.
Get the source RPM and recompile it. That way you'll have a package that doesn't depend on the newer glibc. Alternatively use SuSE Linux 8.2 which uses glibc 2.3.1. cheers Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de private: pth@t-link.de
