[opensuse] Upgrade of libgnomecanvas
Why is it so hard to upgrade something of Novell's? I want gtkpod latest and it seems i have to have libgnomecanvas 2.14 and have 2.12 installed. So i went to uninstall and then reinstall 2.14 and have a huge list of dependencies. What is the easiest/best way to upgrade libgnomecanvas? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

... Yes, and even Evolution (whatever version) cracks if installing a new release of libgnomecanvas. Only "gnome-stable" release works... Bye, AOP -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, I mean that if you install libgnomecanvas-2.14.x downloaded from gnome-unstable branch in OpenSuSE Repositories, Evolution always crashes. Sure. Even when they are same version, but different release o compilation. I am confused. I have tried to install libgnomecanvas from gnome:stable repo at opensuse but it says 'package already installed" using zmd and when i rpm -Uvh <filename> it says: error: Failed dependencies: libgnomecanvas = 2.14.0 is needed by libgnomecanvas-devel-2.14.0-36.3.i586 So, use of stable gnaome stable will or will not work? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes. It will work, if it's stable release rpm package. The other issue is that you already have installed "libgnomecanvas-devel" package and you're trying to upgrade a "base" package from antoher release. So go and, install it by hand (it's the best way, imho, at least) using --force option in rpm command. Good luck! So if i understand this right, i can install the gnome:stable libgnomecanvas 2.14 rpm by hand or from CL without breaking anything? And i should also install the -devel package first by hand then the libgnomecanvas rpm? Can someone write that command out for me? I have tried rpm -Uvh --force <filename> and rpm --force <filename>. Also visited this page to see what the syntax should be http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/s1-rpm-install-additional-options.html but do not see the correct way to use --force. Nevermind, i found out the correct syntax. You don't use --force, you use -f; so rpm -fUvh <filename> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
