Based mainly on my poor understanding of the setup I am loosing all my emails when I send them with SuSe 8.0. I am using KDE3.0, kinternet, sendmail. Having a dial up service I have set up my modem, an external 3Com US Robotics with two telephone numbers of my ISP. I can connect with my ISP, receive email but whenever I send email it shows as send to the address of my choice but it never arrives at the addressee. In the meantime I made some ten test messages to myself in order to confirm this behavior. I have a Ne 2000 compatible eth0 card on my system but due to a breakdown of the second computer the local net does not really exist. Via YOU I have updated all relevant programs last week. The setup from the network and modem are done via Yast2 only. I have in the past murked my system by editing configuration files and try to avoid that method as much as possible. I have read TFM but do not understand much of it ;-) and it was not of much help. In the setup from Yast2 I used following for the MODEM: Modem Connection parameter (V) activate firewall (V) dial on demand name servers 202.159.32.2 and 202.159.33.2 (being the DNS given by my ISP and which I also use for my DOS email programs) MAIL: Domains locally delivered mail - localhost Outgoing mail server - smtp.indo.net.id NETWORK card: eth0 static address setup IP address 192.168.1.1 Subnet mask 250.250.250.0 Hostname and name server: Hostname - bigone Domaine name - constant.net change hostname via DHCP (no) I think I have indicated all parts of the relevant (I think) inputs and wonder if I have made a mistake somewhere. Could somebody look through this setup and see if and where I made a mistake? And where should I look in order to find out if my emails where perhaps stored somewhere on my computer? -- NTReader v0.36w(P)/Beta (Registered) in conjunction with Net-Tamer.

to check status of outgoing mail, execute mailq from cl and look in the logs at /var/log/mail -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org

I can't help you with youre problem,..sorry. What i want to know is, this post of yours shows up as reply to the thread called "email is lost" and not as a new post to the list. I've seen this kind of stuff alot on this list, is something wrong with mozilla-messenger wich i'm using or do people post in some sort of wrong way to this list? Just curious, Chris.

Typically, this happens when someone is lazy and instead of creating a new message, then reply to an existing message and just change the subject. There are additional headers for the threading that don't get changed... hence the strange trail of messages. - Herman "DRM... I was starting to get worried because i thought i was missing a lot because threads getting burried under threads and i'm not going to open them all :-) Well too bad, if it's because of someone being too lazy to post right. But still, i realy like this list, lots of usefull stuff, Chris.

Posibly because it was entered as a reply to another mail, and then edited. You can find that out if you look carefully at the headers (view source in mozilla), and find: References: <20021020134639.C078314507@Cantor.suse.de> <20021020135842.GB3211@wahoo.no-ip.org> which are, if I'm not mistaken, the id of the previous email(s).

Just curious,
I'm just guessing :-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
