Hi, Why is it that when I hit reply the "recipient" (by default) is the actual sender of the e-mail and not the SuSE-E list itself? This is the second list I have come across that does this and I reckon I've sent about the same amount of e-mails directly to the senders rather than to the list (my apologies to those who have received direct replies in error) ... surely a simple list configuration change would stop this? This and Xperts are the only lists where I have to do something to reply to the list I add my apologies to those I have sent direct as well. I take exception to there 'having been a discussion' on this - I put up with it under duress and suspect that an open vote would produce a different result. In the meantime a lot of usefull replies are being lost to the list because the respondent simply hit reply - I've just done it twice myself, and I can't be bothered to copy the list with the answers <g> p.s. I nearly send this privatly as well - even though I was talking obute it !!! -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services

And this and Xperts are probably the only lists you are on that don't have bounces and auto reponder messages on them.

Lester, you can run your mailing lists however you want. Read the faq and feel to send your arguments against to the follup-to address. -- -ckm
Always hit "reply all" as "reply" sends the mail in the "To" section wheras suse address is in "cc" James.Rocks@equant.com wrote:

Not always it doesn't. It sometimes appears in cc (like for this message) but normally appears alongside the sender in 'To'. For the latter, the sender presumably gets the message twice. Steve. On Thursday 27 June 2002 15:23, Fast Info wrote:

This is a very controversial subject for listservs. As a person who has run lists for over 10 years, I've seen some very hot debates. In general, a listserv either sets the From: address to the original sender of the message. This has the effect of reducing some traffic on the listserv when the intent is to reply to the sender. Some listservs set up the reply-to: such that when replying, it will always reply back to the list. I guarantee that if we start discussing this much further, it will result in a flame war. Most of the lists I maintain retain the From: address of the original sender (which is the way this list is set up). On 27 Jun 2002 at 13:57, James.Rocks@equant.com wrote:
