I am starting to learn python, and the package installed on my SuSE 8.2 box is python2.31 as shown below. Trying to import readline for the interactive mode produces the following error:
Anyone has a clue where is problem?
Strange, I do not remember having seen such problems, while I have many 8.2 installed. However, I recompile Python on all systems, because we uniformly want a single version everywhere. Maybe you did reinstall it?
Hi, François Thanks you very much! Yes, reinstalling solved the problem!
Then, you must have `readline-devel' installed prior to installing Python. The same is true for `tcl-devel' if you want Tkinter, and `db-devel' if you want `bsddb' support.
You are right, the *-devel package must be installed before the python package for proper support. Thanks again! -- Yongtao Yang email: yongtao.yang@gmail.com
