Hi List; I posted to the suse-linux-e list with no response. Maybe that was the wrong list to start with? Yesterday pulled down the remastered 10.1 DVD ISO and installed 10.1 on a laptop I have to see if Its ready for me to upgrade. The install went fine however I am somewhat confused by the new zen updater instead of my SuSE Watcher. So, I have a few questions: - Does the zen updater pull only patches & fixes like the SuSE Watcher did ? If not where do I now get these types of updates? - What's the best way to update my system, does the zen updater do it all ? or is there a better/easier to manage method? - Both zen updater and Yast Sources only list my DVD drive. Where can I find a list of 10.2 repositories for both the zen updater and yast ? Do they both accept the same repos? I guess the short question is - how do I keep my system up to date and where can I find step by step (im kinda slow) documentation on how to configure my new 10.1 box for updates? Thanks in advance... /Kevin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

When you installed the system, did you test your network configuration by, first, downloading the new release notes and, second, configure the updater (can't remember the exact wording of this step...but you should have noticed a bit of a wait while your machine setup a local update repository for your system)? If you did those things, then Zen is good to go for keeping your system up to date with critical patches and whatnot. The rest of your system (i.e. latest versions of programs like amaroK and such), though, still needs some configuration. My suggestion would be to check out Guru's version of SMART package manager. Download the program and the GUI rpms from his site and install them using Zen. (You can, of course, install the version of SMART that came with the SUSE DVD, but Guru's version has some repository information already included, which the SUSE version does not).) Then open up SMART, which is under Utilities->Configuration. In SMART, click on the icon with two blue arrows on the left, which will update the repo package info, and then click on the icon with the green arrow, which will update your system. Sit back while it does its thing, and after it's done you'll be good to go. Hope this helps. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thanks Mathhew. Zen and are were having issues. SMART is faster and works. Bill Anderson Matthew Downs wrote:
