[opensuse] Problem viewing a .flv
I wanted to run a YouTube "Tutorial" video at half or quarter speed and thought that the best way to do this was to download it and use local tools to do that. Good idea, poor implementation. So, I have the .flv file and I can't view it. I get sound but no video. I've downloaded and updated codecs that I know about and found in past threads on this. I've tried smplayer, dragon, kaffine, mplayer, vlc player, xine and flash player 10. That last one gives nothing at all. Smplayer is the odd one. I get the sound tack at the right speed and the video and 4x speed. What's going on here that I've misconfigured or misunderstood? -- "You may delegate authority, but not responsibility." Goto http://pwnyoutube.com/ and download the file as mp4. If you have to use the flv give some debug info from mplayer. Manne -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I just tried it with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPz3YaIJkjQ and got a 10M mp4 instead of a 6M flv. MP4 much better video than FLV, but still short of TV quality in VLC blown up to max width on my 1856x1392 screen. -- "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." Unless I'm missing something having looked at it quickly its a Windows only programme. Does it work in Linux ?
You must have looked too quickly to understand what is there. What I see there is web browser scripts. The first works for me in Firefox, so I didn't try the others. -- "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." Proverbs 21:5 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. I tried it out last night. Works fine. Typically with YouTube, though, I download as .flv files using FlashGot and then view them in VLC. -- kai www.perfectreign.com | www.ecmplace.com www.twitter.com/PerfectReign -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Try 'mplayer -fps 12.5 foo.flv' from an xterm. If that does not work (right), show the 'mplayer -v foo.flv 2>&1 | tee mplayer.log' output. -dnh --

Hi Anton, I'am just curious if you have used codecs from this set: http://opensuse-community.org/1-click-collection They work great for me, so I don't know if it is strange file format or different codecs. Running "file" on one of them says Tutorial.flv: Macromedia Flash Video I already have (?had?) the pack you refer to for KDE (I'm not running Gnome). My logs show that a number of codecs have been updated in the past few days. Trying that link, however, returns The following repositories could not be added http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/11.1/ http://suse.linuxin.dk/repo/11.1/ The VLC YMP returns The install link or file you opened does not contain instructions for this version of openSUSE. All in all not very helpful, but thanks anyway. -- Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless. Thomas A. I guess you use xine backend - so check in yast what repo they come from (there should be packman "packman.links2linux.org" - if not than you don't have propper codecs. ------------------------------- andy@jazdkart:~> zypper se codecs Repository 'Packman Repository' is out-of-date. Trying that link, however, returns
The following repositories could not be added http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/11.1/ http://suse.linuxin.dk/repo/11.1/
these should mirrors for packman and decss (DVD) So check your xine packages and you will see the source repo. Maybe you have multimedia backend without many codecs. In that case you should uninstal them and use packman. Prefered method is via opensuse community "http://opensuse-community.org/1-click-collection" - I use it (now 11.1) and it works fine. This way it also satisfy all dependencies and you don't end with rpm-Hell. A -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
