(I tried subbing to the Grip list but it looks like it's not active anymore.) I'm trying to get Grip to work. Grip will rip or play a CD with no problems but when I try to encode the ripped wav file using oggenc, I get what looks like an MP3 file of about the right size but when I try to play it using xmms, the kbps and kHz indicators flash what looks like random numbers for a few seconds and then acts as though the file has been played. Any assistance will be appreciated. Don Henson

Try renaming it with an ogg extension. Maybe it is just because the filename says it should use an mp3 decoder when it was ripped an ogg file. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. To my surprise that worked. However, the ripped and encoded files will be on a Linux fileserver which will be accessed by a Windows mp3 player (iTunes). Will changing the file extension cause a problem in that environment? Alternatively, do you know where I can get a copy of lame in an rpm somewhere? Don Henson

I just can't seem to remember to put my comments at the bottom. Sorry about that. Anyway, I just wanted to close this off. The installation of lame went well and everything now works, at least with xmms. Thanks to all who contributed to my education. Don Henson
