Re: [SLE] Bad idea to "pick on" a particular distribution

I've read on that site, and I do agree to its main points, that Red Hat should not be the only distribution of GNU/Linux be known to other manufacturers and so that their products for Linux only works solely in Red Hat. But there's a couple of misleading information. VA Linux had said that although they only sell a modified Red Hat on their hardware, they're trying to get their optimized and modified version of SuSE onboard for others who prefered the alternative. I've listened to this among a whole room full of LUG members, so we can go after VA if they don't create an alternative. NetMax thin servers are not product on top of Red Hat, but rather modified version of Red Hat. I've seen enough of the ad on Linux magazines that it has fused to my memory. and I can always pick one of them up to double check. I'm glad that someone had set up a petition so that others will know there's not just Red Hat out there. BTW I prefer SuSE cause I believe it's a great distro for people to learn about Linux and its packages, since it has 6 CD full of it =)

Calyth, Thanks for reminding me about the petition! With all the stuff happening to me in the last few weeks I plain forgot it was there. I need to look at that again. I'm with them on that part of it for sure. I do a bit of that myself. That is I make sure everyone knows I use SuSE Linux. I must admit, when I first started with GNU/Linux it was a very close call between distributions. The thing that pushed me over to SuSE was the fact the particular distribution had the latest kernel of all distributions on the bookshelf at Borders. I'm not the least bit sorry about choosing SuSE. Lot's of people talke about the technical excellence of SuSE or the number of goodies you get with SuSE. The things I like best about SuSE are the SuSE Linux Book, the sense of truness to OSS, and most of all, this mailing list. Dochost is pretty cool, and slowly but surly Geeko and his girlfriend are getting personalities.
